Taylor Swift’s Sydney concert delayed after storm

Written by on February 23, 2024

Taylor Swift’s concert in Sydney, Australia on Friday was delayed after the venue was evacuated due to a storm.

The pop star’s Eras Tour concert got off to a late start after the Accor Stadium was evacuated due to extreme weather conditions.

Before the show began, fans who were seated on the floor and lower bowl levels were asked to move inside after lightning struck just 10 kilometres (six miles) away from the venue.

Shortly before the concert was due to start at 6.20pm, the stadium released a statement announcing the delay.

“Please note, due to weather, show start time has been delayed,” it stated. “Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions. Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you.”

As a result of the delay, Sabrina Carpenter’s support set was cancelled.

Taylor finally took to the stage at 7.50pm, only 20 minutes later than scheduled, and opened the show to a crowd of 81,000 people with a selection of her greatest hits.

“We have a little bit of a weather situation, we might have some rain, but I’ve never known an Aussie crowd to let that get in the way of having a good time,” Taylor told the crowd.

The Cruel Summer singer’s boyfriend, American football star Travis Kelce, attended the concert to support the All Too Well hitmaker.

The crowd applauded as Travis entered the stadium and made his way to his VIP seat.

Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Taika Waititi and director Baz Luhrmann were also in the audience.

Taylor is scheduled to perform three more shows in Sydney over the weekend.
