Shania Twain nervous about ‘rambling on’ when hosting People’s Choice Country Awards

Written by on September 24, 2024

Shania Twain has admitted she feels like a “giddy child” about her hosting duties for the People’s Choice Country Awards 2024.

The 59-year-old will host the event on 26 September in Nashville.

“I’m not the greatest reader,” she told The Boot. “I’m a very spontaneous speaker and thinker, so if I get rambling, they might have to take the hook out and get me off the stage.”

She added, “I think it’s gonna be more about adrenaline than nerves, you know, just feeling excited, building up to meeting artists that I haven’t met yet. I will say that the night’s gonna go by too quickly for me, that excitement might get me either speaking too quickly or too long. I think I’ll be more like a giddy child. I think that’s it, I don’t want to ramble on, you know?”

The show will include performances from Keith Urban and Parker McCollum, while Miranda Lambert will be recognised as this year’s Country Icon.

Beyonce has been nominated for 17 awards off the back of her Cowboy Carter album. These include the Overall People’s Artist of 2024, Female Artist of 2024 and the Album of 2024.

“The impact is undeniable,” Shania said of Beyonce’s foray into country music. “I think all successful recording artists make music for listeners, and these artists deserve an industry that in return, listens to the people’s choice, to what the people want to hear. That’s what’s happened with Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter.”

She added, “The industry needs to respect what the listeners want, and what the listeners want is Beyoncé country. The people are hungry for more diversity in the genre. Beyoncé is part of broadening the spectrum. When I was growing up I was listening to folk country, alternative country and all kinds of country, and we’re getting back to that now again, and Beyoncé is part of that.”
