Quincy Jones laid to rest during private family funeral service

Written by on November 11, 2024

Late music legend Quincy Jones was laid to rest during a private funeral ceremony for his immediate family in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The 91-year-old music producer, bandleader, composer and arranger passed away at his home in LA on 3 November and his family paid their final respects in private a week later, on Sunday 10 November.

The family said in a statement to The Associated Press that the “intimate ceremony included Mr. Jones’ seven children, his brother, two sisters, and immediate family members”.

They did not specify exactly where the ceremony took place. However, they noted that a public celebration of Jones’s life is being planned and details of the memorial “will be announced at a later date”. In lieu of flowers, they have asked people to donate to the Jazz Foundation of America.

The music titan’s loved ones also thanked those who have publicly mourned him, saying that they remain “enormously grateful for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans from around the world”.

During his 70-year music career, Jones collaborated with the likes of Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Donna Summer.

Jones was married three times and had seven children, including his famous actress daughter Rashida Jones.

The Parks and Recreation star paid tribute to her father alongside a throwback photo days before the funeral.

“He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy,” she captioned the Instagram post. “I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
