The Commoners – See You Again
05 July 2024 (released)
What a rush!
Remember the electric shock you got the first time you heard classic rock – loud, proud and unashamed. The way that, as soon as the record finished, you had to cue it up again immediately. And then rush out and tell all your mates about it.
This album brings all that back – in spades.
Coming out of Toronto Canada, The Commoners have been around for about ten years, constantly changing line up. The current line up is: Chris Medhurst (vocals/guitar), Ben Spiller (bass), Ross Citrullo (lead guitar), and Adam Cannon (drums). Often joined by their friend, organist Miles Evan Branagh.
The album is full of great riffs, tight harmonies and powerful beats. Southern Rock stylings with soulful vocals and excellent guitar leads from Ross Citrullo.
It opens with a belter – ‘Devil Teasing Me’. Branagh’s Hammond making the sound deep and fluid, a great riff and massive drums driving the song along. Touches of the Allman Brothers and even Molly Hatchet in the song.
Much of the album is in this vein, most of it sent me careering around the room like I did ??? years ago. But they do manage one excellent ballad ‘See You Again’ which shows that Chris Medhurst is more than a rock shouter.
All around, a knockout album.
You’ll be telling everyone when you hear it.
