Madonna reflected on her “near-death experience” during her most recent concert.
During her concert in Inglewood, California on Monday night, the Queen of Pop revealed details of the bacterial infection she contracted in June last year that landed her in intensive care.
“This summer I had a surprise,” the 65-year-old told the crowd during her show at the Kia Forum as part of her Celebration Tour. “It’s called a near-death experience.”
“It was pretty scary – obviously I didn’t know for four days because I was in an induced coma, but when I woke up, the first word I said was, ‘No,'” Madonna recalled. “I’m pretty sure God was saying to me, ‘You wanna come with us? You wanna come with me, you wanna go this way?’ And I said, ‘No. No!'”
The Material Girl hitmaker went on to express her gratitude to her doctor, who she revealed was in the audience during the show. She also explained that the doctor had encouraged her to spend time in the sun as she recovered from her health scare.
“It was so hard for me to walk form my house to the backyard and sit in the sun,” she remembered. “I know that sounds insane, but it was difficult.”
“I didn’t know when I could get up again and when I could be myself again,” the Like a Prayer singer continued. “It was a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control. That was my lesson to let go.”
Madonna is currently in the middle of the North American leg of her world tour, which was delayed due to her health scare.
