Jennifer Lopez stands up for Puerto Ricans at Kamala Harris rally

Written by on November 1, 2024

Jennifer Lopez stood up for Puerto Ricans at a rally for Kamala Harris on Thursday.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe recently sparked outrage when he referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” during a Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Lopez, who has Puerto Rican parents, spoke out to defend citizens of the U.S. territory at the rally for Trump’s presidential rival.

“He has consistently worked to divide us,” the singer said of Trump. “At Madison Square Garden, he reminded us who he really is and how he really feels.”

She continued, “It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans that were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country. It was humanity and anyone of decent character.”

Elsewhere in her speech, the Hustlers star stressed the importance of the female vote.

“I believe in the power of women. I believe that women have the power to make the difference in this election,” she declared. “I believe in the power of Latinos. I believe in the power of our community. I believe in the power of all our votes.”

Lopez also responded to Hinchcliffe’s comments on Sunday, when she reposted a video on Instagram claiming Trump doesn’t care about Americans living in Puerto Rico.

Earlier this month, the On the Floor hitmaker encouraged her fans to register to vote in the upcoming election, saying in a video posted to social media, “Your vote is your voice and your power and our voices are louder together.”

On 5 November, Americans will vote to decide whether current Vice President Harris or former President Trump will become the leader of the United States.
