Jayson Tatum Wants To See Significant NBA Rule Change

Written by on February 18, 2024

The NBA’s best and brightest are all in Indianapolis for the annual All-Star Weekend. Several players are making their first appearances in the game, but it’s beginning to turn into a tradition for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum.

Tatum is an All-Star for the fifth straight season, leading a Celtics team with the best record in basketball. Boston looks to have a real opportunity to compete for a championship this season, and their best player is leading the way.

Tatum was at the podium on Saturday for All-Star media day, and he got an interesting question from a reporter.

If he could change any rule in the NBA, what would it be?

The former Duke star gave his answer, and it’s a rule change that many players around the league would appreciate.

“If you get a tech for overreacting to a call, and you were right – like, they go back and look, coaches’ challenge and they overturn it – the tech should be rescinded,” Tatum said.

“You should get your money back,” he added, noting the fines associated with technical fouls.

With players reacting to calls in the heat of the moment and the two minute report exposing any missed calls or inaccuracies in pivotal moments in the game, it should be simple to retroactively determine which players should have their technical fouls rescinded.

For now, Tatum’s proposed rule is simply that – a proposal.

As a multi-time All-Star with a growing amount of influence in the league, he could attempt to present his case for the new rule to both the player’s association and the league’s competition committee.
