Dua Lipa has described being friends with Katy Perry as a “full-circle moment” as she danced on stage with her when she was 15.
During Katy’s California Dreams world tour in 2011, she invited several fans to dance on stage with her during every show – and Dua was one of the lucky few picked during her concert in London.
The New Rules singer, 28, reflected on how her relationship with the Teenage Dream hitmaker has changed over the years since that moment.
“I love Katy! I am friends with Katy. I think she’s amazing,” Dua told Rolling Stone about the pop star, who attended one of her early U.S. shows at the Hollywood Palladium in 2018. “That was a full-circle moment for me when she came to see my show at the Palladium because when I was 15 years old, I went to go see her at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
“It was her California Dreams Tour, and she was bringing fans onstage and I jumped onstage and I danced. There’s this embarrassing picture of me online, but I love her… To get the nod from someone like her, someone who I look up to, is really encouraging.”
A throwback photo of the moment shows a young Dua and the other fans in a group hug with Katy at the end of the song.
Speaking to the same outlet last year, the American Idol judge said she knew Dua was going to be huge when she saw her in 2018.
“I remember even championing Dua because I was like, ‘Oh, this girl is going to be the next big girl pop star. She’s the it girl, and she’s coming,'” she recalled.
