Written by on June 24, 2024

Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace is a series of summer concerts set against the stunning backdrop of one of Britain’s most iconic stately homes. On Thursday, 13th June 2024, the enchanting grounds of Blenheim Palace were brought to life by an incredible lineup featuring Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, and the Fatback Band. This evening of legendary R&B, soul, and funk was nothing short of spectacular.

Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a unique and breathtaking setting for Nocturne Live. The palace’s majestic architecture and sprawling gardens create an atmosphere of grandeur and elegance, perfect for an evening of live music. The open-air venue allowed for a relaxed and enjoyable experience, with the audience spread out across the picturesque lawns, basking in the summer evening glow.

Although the day and evening were a bit wet, thankfully the The Great Court held up well thanks to being a hand-standing venue, and spirits weren’t dampened.

A variety of food and drink vendors were on hand, offering an array of delicious options to cater to all tastes. From gourmet burgers and wood-fired pizzas to vegan delights and artisanal ice creams, there was something for everyone. The well-stocked bars ensured that no one went thirsty, serving a selection of craft beers, fine wines, and refreshing cocktails, as well as those warming tea/coffees on the wet evening.

The evening kicked off with the Fatback Band, who set the tone for the night with their infectious funk grooves. The band, known for their hits like “I Found Lovin'” and “Backstrokin’,” delivered a high-energy performance that had the crowd on their feet from the start. Their tight rhythms and lively stage presence were the perfect warm-up, getting everyone in the mood for the soulful sounds to follow.

Next up were Sister Sledge, who dazzled the audience with their synchronized choreography and sparkling purple outfits. The iconic group performed a string of their greatest hits, including “We Are Family,” “He’s the Greatest Dancer,” and “Lost in Music.” Their harmonies were spot-on, and their infectious energy was palpable, as they had the crowd singing and dancing along to every song. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and their performance was a testament to their enduring appeal.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the legendary Chaka Khan. Celebrating her 50th anniversary in the music industry, Chaka Khan took the stage with the grace and power that have made her a global icon. She captivated the audience with her stunning vocals and commanding presence, delivering an unforgettable performance. Her set included timeless classics such as “Ain’t Nobody,” “Through the Fire,” and the anthemic “I’m Every Woman,” which had the entire audience singing along in unison. Chaka Khan’s voice was as strong and soulful as ever, and her connection with the audience was truly special. It was a performance that will be remembered by all who attended.

This night set a high bar for the rest of the Nocturne Live series, promising more incredible performances in the days to come.
