Four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated, multi-platinum, and chart-topping singer songwriter Camila Cabello has been revealed as the latest cover for Issue 17 of King Kong Magazine. Following last week’s release of her highly anticipated single ‘I LUV IT’ (feat. Playboi Carti), Camila speaks to King Kong Magazine as part of their liquid-themed issue to discuss her new single, her approach to writing her upcoming album, and what can be expected from her new chapter.
On new single ‘I LUV IT’:
“I picture I Luv it as the song that you put on in the car before you go out at night with your friends!”
“The music video is me embracing the chaos of the song. There is a lot of different symbolic vignettes of me getting into trouble and enjoying it. Playboi Carti showed up at 3AM to shoot his part and it was super fun to get to sing our song together.”
On creating her upcoming new album and her songwriting approach:
“We made this album over a year and so it was a lot of different experiences that went into the album. My goal was to take the album back to the beginning and how I started writing which was me on my own writing lyrics. When I play this album to my friends this sounds like the girl I talk to everyday. It’s an undiluted representation of me.”
“As a songwriter I’ve really learned a lot about songs that contain so many words and in other songs such as I luv it I’m learning about why repetition can be effective and important.”
On what can be expected from her music in this new chapter:
“I think this next chapter for me really isn’t supposed to be consumed as single by single. It really is an album project. A sit down and listen through. Peaks and valleys, there are songs that are more storytelling, but they live in the same world and not one song is like the other.”
