Lady Gaga wants ‘things to be less about her’ as she gets older

Lady Gaga has revealed that she wants “things to be less about her” in her forties.

After spending years in the spotlight, the 38-year-old singer-songwriter and actress wants to focus on putting the people around her first.

“I’d actually like things to be less about me,” Gaga told ELLE UK when asked what she wants from the next decade of her life. “I really want to be there for people around me as much as I can. That’s the thing that makes me the most happy.”

While she plans to soon start a family with her fiancé Michael Polansky, the Die with a Smile hitmaker has no intention of giving up her music career.

“That doesn’t mean I don’t want to be an artist,” she told the publication. “But I think the thing I’d like in my forties is to discover all the ways I can show up better for people in my life.”

The Bad Romance singer added, “All the ways that I can create positivity and joy. Music’s just one way that I do it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gaga explained that she has tried to make an effort to be more present.

“I’m not going to torture myself,” she said. “I’m going to celebrate. I used to drink a lot and smoke a lot, and I was always looking for an out. I used to call it the trapdoor. I used to be like, ‘I need an escape route.’ And I stopped doing that. And I actually started feeling it. Being present. As an artist, it’s hard to go through that and not want to share that with my fans.”

Gaga is currently gearing up to release her upcoming album Mayhem on 7 March.
