Drake admits he wrote Too Good about Serena Williams

Written by on August 8, 2024

Drake has admitted he wrote his 2016 song Too Good about Serena Williams.

The rapper and tennis ace were long rumoured to have been romantically involved – and now Drake has all but officially confirmed they dated.

Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, shared a video to social media featuring himself explaining some of his musical inspiration to his mother, Sandi Graham.

“I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena,” he said, referring to the 2016 song.

“It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them. So, I know what kind of song to make.”

He went on to explain he preferred to write positive songs that his flames would be able to enjoy.

“If I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they like,” Drake, 37, said.

“So, I know Serena very well and I know that she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she’ll also not hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”

Drake was a frequent court-side fixture at Serena’s tennis matches in 2011 and the pair were seen kissing in 2015, however the 42-year-old started dating her now-husband, Alexis Ohanian, not long after.

She and Alexis welcomed their daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, known as Olympia, in September 2017. Olympia was joined by a sister, Adira River Ohanian, in August 2023.
