Taylor Swift threatens legal action against student tracking her private jet

Written by on February 7, 2024

Taylor Swift’s lawyer has sent a cease-and-desist letter to a student in a bid to stop him from tracking her private jet.

The pop superstar’s lawyer threatened legal action against Florida university student Jack Sweeney in December to stop him from sharing information about her private jet on his social media accounts, which log the movements of aircraft owned by public figures.

In the cease-and-desist letter, shared with The Washington Post, Taylor’s lawyer Katie Wright Morrone said they would “have no choice but to pursue any and all legal remedies” if he did not stop his “stalking and harassing behaviour”.

They claimed Sweeney’s logs had caused “direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical distress” to the pop star and her family and had heightened her “constant state of fear for her personal safety”.

“While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client,” Morrone continued. “(There is) no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control.”

Morrone also highlighted the fact the 34-year-old regularly has issues with stalkers showing up at her properties.

Addressing the letter, Taylor’s publicist Tree Paine told the publication, “We cannot comment on any ongoing police investigation but can confirm the timing of stalkers suggests a connection. His posts tell you exactly when and where she would be.”

Sweeney told the outlet the letter was an attempt to scare him away from sharing data that is already publicly available from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Taylor has experienced many issues with stalkers over the years. In January, David Crowe was arrested near her New York City home three times in the space of five days.
