Written by on January 6, 2024

Lewis Capaldi secures 2024’s first Official Number 1 album with Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, following the release of a surprise Extended Edition.

Having originally topped the chart for two consecutive weeks in June 2023, Lewis’s second studio LP sees a surge thanks to five previously unreleased tracks available on brand-new physical and digital formats. Lewis’s debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent also benefits this week, lifting 18 back into the Top 40 (26).

This week, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent was officially named one of 2023’s biggest albums; placing at Number 14 on the list.

Taylor Swift’s former chart-topper 1989 (Taylor’s Version) holds steady in the Top 5 this week (2), and is the first of seven Taylor LPs inside the Top 40. It’s joined by 2022’s Midnights (8), 2020’s folklore (9), 2017’s reputation (12), 2019 release Lover (13), 2020’s evermore (24) and the original 2014 edition of 1989 (40).

1989 (Taylor’s Version) also leads the list of 2023’s Official best-selling vinyl albums; shifting more copies on wax than any other LP last year.

Crowned the Official biggest album of 2023, The Weeknd’s hits compilation The Highlights holds strong in the Top 5 (3), while ABBA’s timeless Gold: Greatest Hits climbs to its highest position since 2008 (4).

Rounding out this week’s Top 5, Vermont-born singer-songwriter Noah Kahan earns a brand-new peak with his third studio album Stick Season, up three (5).

Olivia Rodrigo’s former Number 1 LP GUTS lifts one this week (6). Olivia’s second studio album is also named 2023’s best-selling album on cassette.

Post Malone’s hits compilation The Diamond Collection rebounds six spots back into the Top 20 this week (19), as Michael Jackson’s The Essential lifts five (20).

Finally, after no doubt soundtracking many New Year celebrations, Joel Corry’s Another Friday Night vaults 21 places back into the Top 40 (33).
