Britney Spears has slammed documentaries that tell the story of her conservatorship battle.
The pop star took to Instagram on Monday to hit back at the documentaries which detail her 13-year-long conservatorship.
Britney posted a screenshot of a 2021 quote from Bobby Campbell, Lady Gaga’s manager, asking her if she was “okay with people making these documentaries”, shortly after the release of Netflix’s Britney vs Spears.
Bobby stated at the time, “There needs to be transparency about how or whether the filmmakers are profiting from this doc, or if they are donating their fees to Britney’s legal defense, or to legal defense funds to aide those who do not have the financial resources to fight against undue conservatorships.”
The Circus hitmaker has now spoken out about the documentaries, accusing the filmmakers of trying to “manipulate the system”.
“Would it matter if I wasn’t ok with it ??? JUST SAYING !!!!” the 41-year-old wrote in response to Bobby’s question.
“Hmmm defense in funding those who do not have financial resources to fight against conservatorships ???” she continued. “Or for people to manipulate the system showing hour long documentaries showing my hardest times 3 years ago proclaiming I’m supposed to benefit from THAT !!! BULLS**T !!!”
Britney claimed that the documentaries were created with the intent to “offend” her rather than “demonstrate support”.
“The bottom line is intention !!! What angle were they coming at ???” she wrote. “Was it to demonstrate support … understanding … love ??? Why no !!! None of these !!! It was to offend and offend only !!!”
Britney has previously spoken out about the documentaries. In 2021, she said that Framing Britney Spears by The New York Times left her “embarrassed” and in tears “for two weeks”.
Britney’s conservatorship was implemented in 2008 and was later terminated in November 2021.
